Danish Secretary of State visits SouthernHydro-Meteorological Station

Danish Secretary of State – Deputy Minister for Energy, Infrastructure and Climate Thomas Egebo, Ambassador of Denmark to Vietnam Charlotte Laursen and Danish delegation paid a working visit to the Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecastingin the South of Vietnam.

The representative of the SouthernCenter for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting introduced to the Danish mission the main activities of the station, including basic investigation, observation, forecasting, warning, monitoring, provision and consultation of services in the hydro-meteorological area. In addition, the center conducts research to improve forecastingprofession and quality.

At the working session with the Danish delegation, the representative of the Southern Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting of Vietnam also expected Danish Government to support the upgrade of Mike 11 - a flood forecasting model, to supplement missing modules in the Mike set to for the forecasting of salinity, tide and flood; train, guide, and transfer technology to the center’s forecastersto use Mike model kit; to invest in the center for some automatic salinity gauging stations, oceanographic stations in Ba Dong - Tra Vinh, Hon Son - Kien Giang and 01 weather forecasting radar in Ca Mau.

Danish Secretary of State, Deputy Minister for Energy, Infrastructure and Climate Thomas Egebo said: "The Danish delegation's visit to the Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecastingin the South of Vietnam is part of a joint program between Denmark and Vietnam in the field of energy and climate. Meanwhile, the Center is one of the units involved in activities related to climate change, flood monitoring and water resources.

Secretary of State Thomas Egebo said that the Danish ambassador to Vietnam would study and consider these proposals. Secretary of State Thomas Egebo also thanked the center for taking the time to welcome and introduce the main activities of the center and the main features of the extreme weather and climate under the impacts of climate change in the South of Vietnam in recent years.

It is known that Denmark is one of the countries in Europe that soon established relations with Vietnam as well as provided development assistance to Vietnam and now belongs to the group of countries providing a great deal of ODA to Vietnam, including climate change field. Denmark is also one of the largest donors to Vietnam for the "Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Program".
