Integrate climate change response into development planning

After two-year of researching, the Institute of Hydrometeorology and Climate Change (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) developed the floodingmap corresponding toclimate change scenarios with its scale of 1:25,000. At the same time, the vulnerability map by climate change impacts was also developed with its scale of 1:25,000 for Thua Thien Hue province.
Based on the analysis of international experience and conditions in Viet Nam, the researching topic "Proposal to integrate CC response into the socio-economic development planning, development planning of some sectors (agriculture, fisheries, infrastructure) of Thua Thien Hue province"developed an appropriate vulnerability assessment method using balance weights.
In addition, the topic has developed a method to integrate climate change issue into the socio-economic development planning through strategic environmental impact assessment with a 6 steps. The results of vulnerability analysis showed the rationality of this method and it also provides a scientific basis for integration. This is an effective tool for assessing success or effectiveness of the integration into the socio-economic development.
According to the Institute of Hydrometeorology and Climate Change, the integration of climate change issue into the socio-economic development are an inevitable process in the future. Otherwisethe social development efforts may be impeded or ineffective. The result of the research is an important scientific basis in researching and implementing the integration of climate change into the socio-economic development planning in Vietnam.
