On 17^th June in Can Tho, the Management Board of urban upgrading projects in Mekong Delta, in collaboration with World Bank, held the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the package "Urban upgrading in the Mekong Delta - Can Tho subprojects"

To strengthen the management and to reduce the lawsuit related to disputes of alluvial land along rivers and sea, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has issued Circular No. 09/2013/TT-BTNMT regulations on management and usage of these lands as validity of investment project but not exceeding 50 years.

The droughts occurs throughout the central provinces in 2013 has shown many shortcomings in river extraction of the region. The sustainable development of the region requires a full awareness of the importance of a river, a management method of river basin that contains communal responsibilities and rights and a harmony development planning among economic growth, people’s happy settlement, biodiversity and environmental protection.

On the conference on "Research Project Result on Phase 1 - The land depression in Ca Mau peninsula" organized by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) in Can Tho city on 17^th June, the warning is: Ca Mau province may disappear in the coming decades in case of putting a stop to groundwater pumping.

To assess the social and environment status for REDD implementation at locality, on 14 June 2013,  a Consultation Workshop on developing Social and Environmental Index (RESI) for REDD+  was held in Hanoi.

In response to World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought (17^th June) in Hanoi, a meeting was held with the theme "Do not let our future become dry" in the afternoon of 17^th June. Accordingly, for nearly 40 years, the process of desertification in Vietnam is becoming more serious. Climate change, deforestation, drought, etc. are the causes of this alarming situation.

On 28 May in Hanoi, an extraordinary meeting of the Việt Nam-Laos Joint Committee on Border Demarcation was held. Vietnam and Lao delegations were led by Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ho Xuan Son and Lao Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bun Kot Sang Som.
